Emmet Gerard McAuliffe, a longtime resident of Campbell River, passed peacefully at home surrounded by family on September 30, 2018.
Gerry was born on March 10, 1940, in St. John, NB, to John and Blanid McAuliffe. When Gerry was in his early 20’s he packed up his little family and moved to Ontario. As the family grew, work saw Gerry travel to different parts of Canada from the oilfields of Alberta to Point Lepreau in New Brunswick. Never one to slow down, when the economy shifted, Gerry became long haul truck driver. After a change in his family, Gerry settled in London, Ontario for a time where he met and married his best friend. Over the next 33 years, Sandy and Gerry’s adventures together took them from London to Winnipeg and even to Texas before they settled into retirement in Campbell River. Gerry enjoyed his retirement years in Campbell River where he cultivated many close friendships and enjoyed time spent with his children and grandchildren. Gerry was a longtime friend of Bill Wilson and will be missed by many.
Gerry was preceded in death by his parents, John and Blanid; brothers, John and David; sisters, Rosemary Milan and Patricia Jenson; and beloved grandson Christopher (CJ) McAuliffe.
Gerry is survived by his best friend and wife, Sandra (nee Laidlaw); daughters, Katherine (Colin), Patricia, Jeanette (Kent); and sons, David (Joyce) and Sean (Kimberly); Grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters Mary Louise Kerr and Carol (Gordon)Shaw; and brothers, Greg (Effie) and Mark (Mary) and many, many nieces and nephews.
