December 18, 1940 - September 29, 2020
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Elspeth Eva Baker on September 29, 2020. Due to covid-19 there will be no formal funeral though a small family 'celebration of life' was held on Sept. 31, 2020. A ceremony to spread Elspeth's ashes with her husbands' ashes will be held next year.
Elspeth was pre-deceased by her husband, Bruce, her parents Clyde and Norma (and Ann and Barbara).
Elspeth is survived by her children Wesley, Darin and Wendy and their spouses, Violet, Melissa and her favourite son-in-law, Patrick. Her grandchildren, Miranda, Diane, Haley and Colby and her great-grandson Hunter greatly miss her. Her only sibling, Margo, also greatly grieves her passing.
Born on December 18th, 1940, Elspeth lived life to the fullest. She married her high-school sweetheart and she and Bruce loved each other for more than 60 years until Bruce's death in 2012. Bruce and Elspeth adopted Wesley in 1963, had Darin in 1964 and Wendy in 1967. Elspeth was Bruce's companion in the many places he was stationed throughout his career. Her final resting place was Nanaimo, B.C.
Elspeth was a caring, strong and inspirational mother and woman. She inspired her family and many others when she overcame leukemia and other medical obstacles. She showed how faith can overcome life's greatest challenges. Later in life she went on many adventures, especially with her favourite daughter, Wendy. Elspeth had many friends whom she enjoyed socializing with.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed her time 'relaxing with a view' in her suite at her daughter's place. Seeking more time with her friends and self she moved into Berwick where she greatly appreciated Berwick's caring staff. Now that Elspeth's journey on this earth is over her ashes will be spread with Bruce's in their resting place in northern Alberta.
In lieu of gifts, donations to the B.C. Cancer Foundation or the B.C. Cancer Research Centre would be greatly appreciated.
