February 25, 1922 - December 2, 2019
It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother, Elsie MacGillivray, 97, in Nanaimo on December 2, 2019, in the presence of her loving family.
Elsie was born Feb. 25, 1922 in Leader, Saskatchewan and lived her early life in Calgary, Alberta and later many years in Nanaimo, B.C. She was the sole survivor of eleven children born to Adam and Elizabeth Schneidmiller.
Elsie is survived by her son Thomas Mullan (Sonja), daughters Sharon Tyler (Wayne); Kathy Giroux (Yvon); Patti Wenman; Kelly Laird (Blake); grandchildren Randall, Carrie, Jeffrey, Chris, Dustin, Jennifer, Brett, Caitlin; great-grandchildren Kirstin, Valerie, Jordan, Matthew, Sean, Katelyn, Rosalie, Juliette, Genevieve and Seth. Predeceased by husbands Samuel Mullan and Eugene MacGillivray, grandson Todd Tyler, and son-in-law Fred Wenman.
Elsie was a strong woman who was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind many cherished memories. Through the years she was a Nobel Grand of Miriam Rebekah Lodge #3, a long time Avon lady and had various jobs in retail. She was an accomplished knitter and was an avid fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and Vancouver Canucks.
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of First Memorial Funeral Services, 1720 Bowen Road, on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020 at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation, 106 - 1001 Cloverdale Ave., Victoria, B.C., V8X 4C9, in Elsie's name, would be kindly received.
