Beloved mother, sister, nana and companion. Harla was born in Comox, BC and grew up in Victoria and East Sooke. As a teen and young adult she enjoyed dancing and performed throughout Victoria and Sooke. She married Leslie Eve, raised three children in Sooke, and in 1975 started work at the Sooke Mirror newspaper.
In 1976 she began a new life with Brian Emerson, and they enjoyed outings on their boat and travels to Mexico. After Brian's death, she found companionship with Bart Bevers. Harla retired in 2015 after 40 years of being a friendly face at the Sooke News Mirror. Harla will be best remembered for her keen wit, sharp humour, love of life, and clam chowder.
Predeceased by parents James Allison Owen and Mary Evelyn Vogel, spouse Brian Emerson, son Darren Eve, and stepdaughter Wendy Emerson. Harla leaves dear companion Bart Bevers, daughter Doni (Rick Kasper), son Dean (Elaine), grandsons Aaron Kasper and Ryan Lillmeier-Eve, stepsons Rick Emerson and Kevin Emerson, sisters Bernice (Vern), Miqueline, Patsy, and Suzanne, and brother Victor (Kath), and many well-loved nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life for Harla will be held on Sunday, July 24, 2:30 pm, at the Sooke Legion. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #54 Sooke.
