In Loving Memory ~
Elizabeth Dien (nee Matter) passed away on February 10, 2023. Born in Montreal on June 20, 1931. Betty lived in Montreal, Belleville, Richmond, Victoria, Coombs, Saltspring Island, Vancouver, Pemberton, and Nanaimo. Betty worked at various jobs in Vancouver.
In March 1969, Betty met Ali Dien, the love of her life, and together they ran a successful contracting business in Pemberton. Betty was an impeccable bookkeeper with every penny accounted for.
In 1998, they retired to Nanaimo and built their dream home. Together they travelled the world and enjoyed many motorhome trips across the country. Betty was a European shopper as well as an avid reader. She was a lifelong lover of the Vancouver Sun, and she especially enjoyed the Sunday crosswords.
She was very proud of her beloved flower gardens. There was never a blade of grass to mow as her yard was all flowers. Betty was always a lady. She was straight to the point and matter-of-fact with no glossing over things.
Betty was predeceased by her parents Ernie and Marty Matter, her sister Marylou, and her brother Michael.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Ali Dien, her son Steven (Kathy) Calder; her stepdaughter Loretta Ball; her grandchildren Jennifer, Kevin, Lia, Kailee, David, and Sarah; her great-grandson Cole; her sisters Susanne (Doug) Parker, Wendy (Reg) Box, and Julia (Wesley) Byblow; 2 nieces and 3 nephews as well as many cousins across Canada, the U.S. and in Switzerland.
Enjoy your garden Betty, you will be truly missed by your family and friends.
