Elijah David Woodcock

April 30, 1998 - July 29, 2022
It is with great sadness to have lost one of the most loved and beautiful people in our community and lives. Elijah David Woodcock, Muskwa, is survived by his Mother; Tammy Morrison and Step-father Norman Mark Morrison, his sisters; Shahala Dodgson, Ashawna Woodcock and niece Beatrix Woodcock, Wapso, numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and many other family members and friends who loved him dearly.
Elijah grew up in the Comox Valley and graduated from Glacier View High School, class of 2017. Elijah is Metis and Cree. He was very proud of his Indigenous culture and was well known as his onstage name of Native with Pride, N.W.P. The life he lived and the person he was represented the teachings he learned: of courage, truth, honesty, humility, kindness, respect, and love.
Elijah poured his heart into his music. He was a talented Hip-Hop Artist in his own right. Elijah performed as Native With Pride, at many community events in the Comox Valley over the past several years.
Elijah was always one of the first to offer his services to volunteer his time or to write a rhyme for an organization and community programs, including Unbroken Chain.
Elijah spread joy and love wherever he went. He impacted so many people's lives from the very young to the very young at heart. Eli would go to great lengths to keep us all laughing. Despite inner battles he faced and struggled to overcome, he was always there for others.
He was a dedicated volunteer for our community and had a strong belief in being there for others. Elijah shared his personal struggles with mental health openly and honestly with others, and helped to reduce the stigma in many ways.
Elijah was dedicated to being there for his family, his mother , sisters, his niece, cousins and many other family members and friends. He stepped up to be there for Elders in our community during the COVID pandemic.
Elijah was an integral part of Unbroken Chain , an Indigenous Harm Reduction Program here in Courtenay , with Indigenous Women's Sharing Society, (IWSS). He volunteered at many events over the past 5 years. Elijah was a powerful advocate and young educator in his own right through the sharing of his impactful songs and helping others.
This young man, also volunteered at every Overdose Awareness Day. He was prepared to save lives in our community, saved lives and always carried Naloxone. We will be forever grateful for all he has done and all he had given to our community.
Elijah enjoyed spending time in nature, the rivers, the ocean, volunteering, writing, song-writing, making people laugh, spending time with animals, friends, his family and Elders.
He recently became a very proud Uncle. He loved spending time with his niece, Beatrix, who he loving called, Wapos (Rabbit in Cree). Elijah will live on through his music and the wonderful memories he gave us all.
A memorial and celebration of life for Elijah will be held at Native Sons Hall on Cliff Ave on August 13th, 2022@ 1pm. We welcome the community to join us in celebrating Elijah's life. Everyone who was ever touched by Elijah in any way is welcome to come, pay their respects, share stories and find some solace.
Elders will be available for cleansing and support.
We will always love you Elijah and be grateful for all the gifts you have given us. May our baby bear, Elijah, rest in paradise, now in the arms of all his loved ones and ancestors. Until we meet again, all our relations.
