Eileen Wales peacefully transitioned in the early morning of September 11th, 2018, with 3 of her 5 favorite children by her side. She lived to be ninety nine and one fourth! If one word could be used to describe Eileen if would be AMAZING! Eileen was an adventurer and you'd only have to say, "Mum, would you like to.." and she would say "YES!" She had a smile for everyone and spoke to anybody. If you had dimples she'd give you a compliment and likely call you Dimples if ever you were to meet again. Eileen enjoyed local live theatre (especially COVAL productions). She loved camping right into her early 90's. Eileen enjoyed her appies at the Atlas and JP's cafe au lait, the live music at Martines and if you performed there you likely played Bob Dylan's "Hey Mr. Tambourine Man" for her. Back when Wendy & Bill owned Toscanos, Eileen had her own "Grannie Wales' chair" plaque. United Church services were important to Eileen and the time she spent on Saturdays with her special helper Erin. Eileen liked "The Dragon" when she visited the casino. She loved to read, do crosswords, play scrabble, and watch Wheel of Fortune & Jeopardy. Her favorite movie was "The American President" and she checked the TV guide weekly to see if it was on. But most of all she loved to be with her family. Here are her 10 secrets to living a long life in no particular order:

1. Eat out of aluminum pots (she used her mother's)

2. Shake'n Bake, carrots, green beans, little potatoes and pie with ice cream for dessert

3. Have a routine

4. Volunteer (Eileen helped feed people at The Views for over 20 years)

5. Daily spiritual readings (Eileen had faith)

6. Remember only the good things

7. Never say anything bad about anyone else

8. Keep in touch with family

9. Be happy

10. Have a sense of humor (Look out if you ever met Eileen!)

A BIG thank you goes out to all that touched her life (the list of names would fill this page) and to the staff at Comox Valley Hospital, especially the caregivers in the Transition Unit and the boys that made sure she signed out. You know who you are...

A special celebration of Eileen's life will be planned at a later date. In the meantime, "Carry on" as she used to say.

"Love you more, Mum!"
