Ed passed away at Yucalta Lodge with Lois, his wife of 61 years by his side.
Ed is also survived by his daughter Sandi Paulsen (Dan), Lauren and Sean and son Bill, Nicholas, Matthew and Sarah as well as his treasured little dog Tia. Ed is predeceased by his parents, Bill and Margaret, and his two sisters, Barbara and Dorothy.
Ed was born in Toronto, the second of three children. When Ed was 10 years old, he moved to Vancouver. As a child, Ed loved exploring all over Vancouver on transit and in his teens he explored much of BC by car. He retained his love of travel all through his life and he and Lois went to many places and visited many people in his lifetime, especially all over North America.
When Ed was 21, he married Lois in Vancouver on June 13th, 1959 and worked as an Electrician for CP Rail before moving to Campbell River in 1964.
Ed retired as an electrical foreman from Elk Falls Mill after 33 years. He built the family home and devoted himself to a lifetime of volunteering. During the early years he was a cubmaster, softball manager and a team leader in CR Search & Rescue.
Later he was a founding member of both the CR Branch of the First Open Heart Society (37 years ago, a past President and annual Walk for Hearts Coordinator) and Citizens for Quality Health Care (16 years ago). He remained active in these groups until the past year.
Ed, along with Lois initiated the successful campaign for free hospital parking. At the opening ceremony of our hospital in Nov. 2017 Ministers Adrian Dix & Claire Trevena presented Ed and Lois with framed certificates for "Recognition for Excellence in Health Care and Community Service" and "Advocacy to protect the healthcare of North Island Residents" signed by Premier Horgan and Minister Dix.
Ed also enjoyed boating, camping, hunting, fishing and being with friends and family.
Ed will be greatly missed. He was a loving father and husband who cherished those around him. He often took people out fishing on his boat, MV Zia, his pride and joy, or for fun get togethers at his home. The door was always open at the Jarvis house and he was always available to lend a hand to anyone who needed it.
Special thanks to all the staff of both the CR Adult Care Society and Yucalta Lodge where Ed received absolutely exemplary care from each and every one of them.
Due to Covid a family gathering will take place later in 2021.
