In loving memory ~
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Edward (Ed) Kleywegt, age 67, of Port Alberni, BC, who went to his heavenly home on May 5th, 2025. He passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at his home.
He was born on April 19th, 1958, to Lina and Klaas Kleywegt in Port Alberni, where he grew up before moving to Maple Ridge in 1982 then returned with his family in 1998.
He married Rita on October 29th, 1983, and together they had three children: Brent, Denise and Keith.
His family and friends were the most important thing in the world to him. He had a generous heart and would always be there when needed. Although he preferred not to be the center of attention, he was the quiet helper to all his loved ones. He was also happily enjoying his new role as "Opa".
He found contentment in quiet pursuits and diligent effort. Whether exploring a new forest on a camping trip, enjoying the warmth of a campfire, or spending a quiet evening with his pets, he took joy in life's simple pleasures. He had a passion for cars, appreciating both their mechanics and driving them, and he keenly followed the hockey season. His faith and devoted service at the Southside Community Church of the Nazarene provided him with profound purpose and connection to his community.
Ed attended BCIT where he studied to become a Forestry Technologist. He then worked as a Forestry Technician for the Ministry of Forests and retired in 2019. His career reflected his love for the natural world— beginning at a landscape nursery which led him on the path to the government forestry service, where he contributed to managing and sustaining our forests. He was involved in many projects in his lengthy career but had a particular sense of pride in his forestry road and bridge work in the later years of his career.
Ed will be lovingly remembered by Rita; his children, Brent, Denise (Sean) and Keith; his cherished grandchildren, Piper and Gavin; his siblings, Yvonne, Carol (Roland), Roy (Joanne), Pete (Grace) and Ray; as well as many extended family members and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lina and Klaas and brother-in-law John (Yvonne)
A private burial at Alberni Valley Memorial Gardens will be followed by a service to celebrate Ed's life that all are welcome to attend. It will be held at Southside Community Church of the Nazarene (4195 Victoria Drive) on Wednesday, May 14th at 1pm officiated by Pastor David Zvonar. The family would prefer donations made to the church in lieu of flowers.
He will be deeply missed and forever held in our hearts.
