August 5, 1923 - June 15, 2020
Edith Hyatt, 96 years young, passed away suddenly on June 15. Predeceased by her sisters Yvonne Heap, Fernande Cassells and Shirley Macaulay.
Born Edith Margaret Taylor on August 5, 1923 in Middlechurch, Manitoba, she grew up and raised her children in Vancouver, BC moving to Thetis Island in 1992 with her husband Ron of 72 years.
She met Ron, an English Naval officer, on English Bay in Vancouver shortly after WWII. She worked as a switchboard operator for BC Tel for over 20 years and after retirement volunteered for Canadian Blood Services and later for the Chemainus Thrift Shop where she was a member for 24 years only retiring recently.
After retiring from the Thrift Shop she continued to do volunteer sewing making aprons for kids and adults alike. She was a big supporter of the Thetis Island Fire Department often baking cakes for members to share.
Edith enjoyed chatting to everyone she met along the way and was a good friend to many. Family was paramount to Edith who was the loving mother of Geoffrey, Jeremie (Gail), Richard (Linda), and Nicole (Rob). She was a cherished auntie to her nieces and nephews particularly to her niece Jeannine Caldbeck with whom she shared many adventures. She was also the cherished grandmother and great-grandmother of 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to UNICEF, BC SPCA or the Thetis Island Volunteer Fire Fighters Society.
