In Loving Memory ~
Born December 3, 1940, to parents Rose and Louie Williams at home at Duncan, BC. Passed away at home, April 6, 2023.
Edith was predeceased by her parents Rose and Louie, her husband Matthew R. Leeming, son Matthew David Leeming, brothers Louis and Anthony Williams.
Survived by her children Sandra Kiley (Stephen), Jacquie Leeming (Dave), Richard Leeming; grandchildren Melissa, Paul, Keri, Jack, Rachel and Derek; great-grandchildren McKenzie, Khloe, Kaylee, and Odin; sisters Maryann Thorne (Eugene), Ruth Kroek (Robert) and Donna Williams (Tony); and many nephews and nieces.
As a young girl, Edith excelled academically and in sports. She skipped grades and finished high school at the age of 16. She then attended Sprott Shaw College, afterwards going on to work for BC Tel in Victoria.
In 1958, she met Matthew, the love of her life. They were married on May 2, 1959. Matthew was in the Navy and soon after their marriage he was posted to Halifax, N.S.; there David was born. After a brief time in Halifax, he was posted to the West Coast, where Sandra and Jacquie were born. In 1962, they were posted to England, where Richard was born.
Edie was a fantastic mother, always encouraging her children in school and sports. When her children were all school age, Edie decided to begin her university education in Business & Commerce. She attended both Dalhousie University and the University of Victoria to complete her post-secondary education.
Edith's education and her strong work ethic prepared her for a career in both the public and private sectors. After retiring from the Province of BC, Finance, Edith was hired as CEO for Cowichan Tribes and then Snuneymuxw First Nation.
Retiring in 2010, Matthew and Edith travelled extensively throughout Europe and North America.
Throughout Edie's life, she was a voracious reader, reading both fiction and non-fiction. Her favourite books were history and cookbooks. Armed with amazing recipes and extraordinary cookware, Edie often prepared a Sunday "Roast Beast" dinner fit for a king!
Edie had a wonderful 5-Star life. She loved and was loved. As a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend she will be greatly missed.
As per Edith's request, a private family gathering was held to celebrate her life.
