Dr. Bill, as he was affectionately known, passed away peacefully with his family at his side. Predeceased by his first wife, Florence and son, Michael. Survived by his wife, Myrtle; daughter, Sharon (D.B.) Quirke; sons, David (Patti) Arnold and Stephen (Patti) Arnold; extended family,

Marianne (Marty) Wick, Kris (Jen) Ostrom, Tanya Ostrom and Jill Sampson; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

As a graduate of the second UBC medical class, his career took him from rural practice in Prince Rupert, to paediatric

training in New York, then returning to BC Children’s Hospital where he had a busy paediatric practice. He taught many of the next generation and inspired others to pursue careers in medicine, including his sons and two granddaughters. His special interest in children with spinal cord defects led him to establish the Spina Bifida Clinic at

BCCH. He was known to have always cared for the child more than the disease. In retirement, he and his wife Myrtle

continued to serve the children of Guatemala doing annual medical trips.

Of his many pastimes, tennis and golf were his favourites but his passion was tending to his rose garden. Bill will

be remembered as a hardworking, energetic, honest, thoughtful and gentle man who made a difference in the

lives of many children and their families. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sept. 29, 2017 at 2 p.m. at St. Stephen’s United Church in Qualicum Beach.

The family would like to thank the staff at Little Mountain Manor and The Gardens 3rd Floor. Special thanks to the

nurses and volunteers at NRGH Palliative Care Unit.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Poco a Poco Service Society, St. Stephen’s United Church or the NR
