July 31, 1922 - June 25, 2021
Our Dad passed away peacefully the evening of Friday, June 25, 2021, one month short of his 99th birthday. He is survived by his daughter Marilyn Aasen (Dan) of Port Alberni and his son Melvin Thomson (Pat) of Parksville.
Four grandchildren: Nicole Greenham (Seth), Aaron Aasen (Krista), Danielle McCollister (Chris) and Stephanie Thomson. Six great grandchildren: Hannah and Isaac Greenham, Leif and Finn Aasen and Ezra and Levi McCollister.
He was predeceased in 1991 by Betty, his wife of 41 years and in 1998 by Joyce, his wife of 6 years. He was also predeceased by his only brother Ken Thomson, in 1987. Dad was born in Scotland, July 31, 1922 and at the age of 4, immigrated to Canada, with his parents, John and Mary Thomson.
They settled in Ladysmith, where he remained for the next 79 years.
As a young man he had various jobs... delivering groceries up and down the hills of Ladysmith on his bicycle, later working in the local mines, and finally many years working at Nanaimo Lakes shop as a heavy duty mechanic.
He had a life long love of sports which began as a teenager playing baseball. He was an avid hockey fan all his life, until his vision failed him and he could no longer see his TV. However, he still enjoyed a good hockey discussion.
He relocated to Port Alberni in 2006 to be nearer to family. These were very happy years for him, enjoying family visits and get togethers. He resided in Echo Village for the last 4 years of his life.
Our Dad was a very loving man, full of wisdom, possessed a great sense of humour, and a very positive attitude. He was blessed with a phenomenal memory and loved a good conversation.
A Life Well Lived...... Until We Meet Again
