November 24, 1947 - November 28, 2020
It is with overwhelming sadness that we report the sudden and untimely death of Doug Boyd. Doug died in his home in Cobble Hill on Saturday November 28th, 2020, just four days after celebrating his 73rd birthday and just ten months after the passing of his beloved Patricia.
Doug was born in Newfoundland, but he will always be remembered as a Burnaby boy. Son of Ewan and Edna, brother of Wendy, father of Travis and Kelly, husband of their mother Sharon, and grandfather of Branden.
Doug spent his childhood in and around Deer Lake where his innate leadership abilities were used to guide the other neighborhood kids in all kinds of wacky but ultimately educational endeavors.
Giant rafts, experimental engine swaps and gravity powered racing cars are just a few that come to mind. When he outgrew these boyish pastimes, Doug put his mind to work for BC Tel aka Telus. Here Doug found a secure career that also satisfied his passion for problem solving. He also found the love of his life, Patricia.
Soon after they were married, they began a lifetime of adventures together. First on B.C.'s Sunshine Coast, then in Summerland overlooking Okanagan Lake and finally at Cobble Hill on Vancouver Island.
Along the way there were epic journeys in various RV's, nearly always with a dog by their side. Doug and Pat shared a love of dogs.
Those who know Dixie Dog, the ancient German Shepard who recently adopted Doug in a time of mutual need can rest assured she has found new owners that Doug and Pat would approve of.
Doug's mortal remains have been cremated and his ashes will be placed near Patricia's in Burnaby's Forest Lawn Cemetery however Doug's spirit will live on eternally through the hundreds of people lucky enough to call Doug Boyd their friend.
