Oberg; Doug "Bud" passed away in Port Alberni, BC on Sunday, May 12 at the age of 85. Predeceased by mother Elsie, father Carl and sister Joyce. Bud is survived by wife Ida; sons Doug of Lake Cowichan and Darryl (Melanie) of Prince George; grandchildren Devin of Parksville, Kaylee and Maylin each of Prince George; brother Roger (Marian); extended family Kirsten and Catherine Barry and Darlene.
Born on the prairies, Bud was sent out to Port McNeill by an Edmonton company to work in the iron mine. Shortly after he moved to Port Alberni where he spent the rest of his life. He went to work at Port Machine Works and then at Rayner Bracht as a welder/machinist. Bud was heavily involved in Ball Leagues here in the Valley as well as camping, salmon fishing and curling.
A Celebration of Bud's Life will be held 1 - 3 pm, Saturday, June 1 at the Port Alberni Lawn Bowling Club. Stories and condolences may be offered to the family at www.chapelofmemories.ca In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Diabetes Society, 400 - 210 W Broadway Vancouver, BC V5Y 3W2 or the charity of your choice.
