May 21, 1934 - May 13, 2021
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Doris Mary Ann Korsa on May 13, 2021. Doris was born in Campbell River on May 21, 1934 to Ann and Armour Sambrook and lived on Quadra Island before moving to Campbell River when she and brother Armour outgrew the one room schoolhouse in Quathiaski Cove. Doris married Joe Korsa in 1953 and raised 3 children in Campbell River. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, excellent cook and baker, and a stickler for a clean and tidy house.
When her kids were grown, Doris spent many seasons commercial fishing with Joe. She enjoyed golf and gardening, and always gave many plants from her gardens to friends and family as well as the Happy Wanderers annual plant sale.
She supported numerous charities, volunteered for her children's school, and, in later years, for the CR Museum, Tidemark Theatre, and her "50 Plus" Happy Wanderers.
Doris travelled widely, often with her sister Marceline and friends, and made many more along the way. Her time spent travelling was cherished by her; thanks to Island Fever Travel for making many of these special trips happen.
Doris led an active lifestyle well into her early 80's, attending exercise classes and playing bridge with many friends in her bridge clubs. She missed you all dearly when weekly bridge games had to end.
Doris was predeceased by her parents and brothers Armour and Jerry. She is survived by her husband Joe, sons Steve (Heather), Brent, daughter Michele (Harold), grandchildren Kari, Kelsey (Cody), Andrea (Shadi), Jennifer, great-grandson Jagger, sister Marceline (Carl), sister-in-law Paula and many nieces and nephews.
Many thanks to everyone who reached out to support us in this trying time, her doctors and nurses at Campbell River Hospital and unit 3D at Comox Hospital, including Cindy, and most especially Dr. Frolic, Monique, and Angie. You were all infinitely patient, kind and respectful to Mom.
All of you and countless others we fail to name helped us navigate through rough waters these last few months.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Open Heart Society of BC, Campbell River Chapter. There is no service planned.
