February 26, 1931 - October 2, 2019
With a heavy heart, the family of Doris Elizabeth Bono (Tobacco) share the news of her passing on October 2, 2019 at the age of 88.
Doris (Dode) was born on February 26, 1931 in Cumberland. She was predeceased by her parents Charles and Della Tobacco and her eight older siblings. In 1948 she married the love of her life, Fred (Sharky) Bono. Sharky passed away in 1993.
Mourning her loss are her children Rick (Judy) and Trudy; special niece Wendy (Matt); grandchildren Jodi, Tara (Neil), Kelly (Steve) and Tracy; and great grandchildren Taig, Taylor, Zachary, Shamus, Libby, Liam, Chlea and Tanner.
Dode lived an exceptional life and is described by many as quite a character. She spent a lot of her adult life as a waitress at Babe's Cafe. Summers were spent up the lake in Little Italy with her "summer family" where fishing, laughs by the fire and card games, especially with Bonnie, were colourfulâ€"to say the least. Another favourite past-time of Dode's were the casino bus trips. She took her last trip to the States just a few months ago. Her ability to gamble for a long period of time on little or no sleep was legendary. She may not have come home with a lot of money but she did come back with a lot of free pens and cards.
Finally, the family would like to thank Dr. Wolnik, Dr. Hatelid and all of the nurses and HCA's on the third floor for their kindness and care.
In her 88 years, she touched many lives and will be missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Comox Valley Hospice Society.
A Memorial Tea will be held on Saturday October 19th from 1 - 4 pm at the Cumberland Legion.
