In Loving Memory ~
Doris passed away peacefully on December 30, 2022 at the Cumberland Lodge where she had been residing, she was 90 years old.
Doris was born on June 19, 1932 in Cumberland into a large pioneering family, her Mom, Lucy was of Irish descent and her Dad, William was born in Comox, she grew up in the Merville-Grantham area.
She was predeceased by both parents, her Brothers Ted, Bill, Bobby and her sisters Eileen and Florence.
Doris will be forever remembered by her daughter Janice (Anderson / Klassen) and sons Randy Rickson and Graeme Rickson. Doris was also predeceased by both of her husband's Russell Rickson (1952-1974) and Poul Andersen (1975-2017)
Doris was blessed to have six Grand Children; Chris & Rose (Janice & John Anderson), Russell & Jennifer (Randy & Gloria Rickson), Geoffrey & Kaitlyn (Graeme & Julia Rickson) including seven Great Grand Children. Gavin (Chris & Susan), William & Andrew (Rose & Kevin), Lennox (Russell & Sophie) Mia (Russell & Lanne), Gracie (Jennifer & Ron), Riley (Geoffrey & Holly).
Doris went to school in Tsolum, she took to playing the piano and worked her way through the Royal Conservatory of Music Program, she loved playing at all the local Barn Dances, and other gatherings.
Doris later graduated as a Psychiatric Nurse and worked at Essondale. She later met and married Russell Rickson and started a family on the Back Road overlooking the Comox Valley. After a few years, they moved out to Little River; affectionately called; "The Beach".
Doris loved to have large family gatherings and would be busy cooking up Clam Chowder, fresh Salmon or a large Prime Rib. She was always up early making fresh bread and had a talent for making the best pies and deserts. She enjoyed playing Hearts and Bridge until the wee hours of the morning whenever her siblings would come for a visit.
Her husband Russell Rickson passed away in 1974, a year later, while on a family ski trip, she met Poul Andersen, they later got married and lived at The Beach, growing a fine garden, catching fresh Salmon and making wonderful wooden crafts and toys to sell at various Craft Fairs.
Eventually, they moved to Comox. Poul got a gardening job at the Filbergs property and was part of the restorative project there. Doris often volunteered at the Filbergs and enjoyed meeting all the people that would attend the events. Mom and Poul loved having family over for Birthdays, for Christmas or just a visit for a cup of tea.
Poul eventually went to stay at the Seniors Village and passed away in 2017, her son Randy looked after her until she went into the Cumberland Lodge in September 2020.
The caring Staff at the Lodge provided exceptional care and the Family is forever grateful for that. Doris will always be remembered as a wonderful Sister, Wife, Mom, Granny, Great-granny and Friend.
The Family will celebrate her life later this summer.
