December 4, 1931 - December 15, 2021
There is a gaping hole in our world as we sadly announce the passing of our beloved mother, Doreen. She passed swiftly in the night but was not without some family members being with her before the end.
Doreen, loving wife of Stan who predeceased her after 66 years together, was a gentle and caring person, fiercely protective of her family that meant everything to her. She is survived by her sons, Paul (Mary) and Andrew (Diane) and her daughter, Karen, as well as her four grandsons Steven (Stefie), Jeremy (Andrea), Alex (Joanna), Duncan (Maddie) and her great grandchildren.
Doreen was born in Leeds, Yorkshire and started working at the tender age of 14 before joining the WRENs where she met her life-long love Stan. For most of the 1950s and 1960s, Doreen was a stay-at-home mother raising her three children. She returned to the workforce in 1970 as an admissions officer at St. Joseph's hospital here in Comox. By the time she retired in 1992 she had become the chief admitting officer there.
Doreen enjoyed every minute of her retirement with Stan travelling early and often and constantly working and enhancing their garden together. After Stan passed, she soldiered on living independently by herself in her new condo home overlooking the Comox Bay. To her newfound friends at the Ballantyne Place, you gave her strength and comfort to live her life and as you well know she loved the 'happy hour'.
For over 50 years Doreen was a proud member of Beta Sigma Phi with lifelong sister friendships and while some have preceded her, to her few remaining sisters, we want to thank you for always being there for each other.
There will be no celebration of life service fulfilling Mum's request and in lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to the charity of your choice.
