Doreen Alice Van Der Mark (nee Petch)

Doreen Alice Van Der Mark (nee Petch), born May 8, 1943 of Campbell River, British Columbia passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on December 31, 2017.

Doreen was born in Yorkshire, England and emigrated to Canada in 1958 with her family. Shortly after Doreen met Herman, the love of her life and they married in Edmonton, Alberta in 1960. In the fall of 1965 Doreen, Herman and their 3 children moved to Beautiful British Columbia leaving the snow of Alberta behind. Soon after a 4th child arrived.

Doreen and Herman raised their family in Surrey, BC and were actively involved in the Soccer community. Doreen worked as a medical receptionist in New Westminster and maintained lifelong friendships with many of her co-workers. In 1989 Doreen and Herman moved to Langley, BC where they built their dream home.

In 2002 they moved to Black Creek, Vancouver Island to be closer to family, followed by a move to Campbell River in 2011. Doreen will forever be remembered for her love and dedication to her family and for being a strong role model for her children and a well-loved Oma who enjoyed being around her grandchildren and hearing about their lives.

Doreen was a fabulous cook and baker and we will miss her sausage rolls and other treats. Doreen loved to travel with Herman in the motor home and on their epic world adventures, always dreaming of far away places.

Doreen was predeceased by her parents Reg and Alice, brother Peter and husband Herman.

Doreen will be remembered by her brother Bruce (Linda); children Charlene (David), Carl (Maureen), Caren (Marc), Chris (Cathy); grandchildren Matthew, Maria (Jeff), Alana and Erin; step grandchildren Kristina, Blaine (Brenell), Vanessa (Richard), Rachelle, Aimee and great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Dr. Coetzee, Dr. Ramsey, Campbell River Hospital, Diana Hicks and Campbell River Home and Palliative Care for their care and support of mom.
