"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful man"
Donnie passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with heart disease on September 28th at the age of 71.
Donnie was predeceased by his parents Walter and Violet Bodnar and brother Rickey Bodnar.
He will be missed by his loving partner of 34 years, Janice Ann Mercredi, son Russell Bodnar, daughter Crystal Mosher, stepson Christopher Mercredi, his beloved grandson Mason Bodnar, granddaughter Jordie Bodnar, sister Maureen Mykyte, brothers Ken and Bob Bodnar, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and many great friends.
In 1974, Donnie moved to Edmonton where he earned his Auto body Mechanic Certificate and owned his own body shop. He moved back to Port Alberni and worked at Sproat Lake Division in the body shop where he met and worked with his best friend Bob Creighton for many years until it shut down.
He continued to work for other logging divisions around the Alberni Valley for several years until he retired in 2012. He then enjoyed traveling with Janice to Mexico and throughout the States. Donnie enjoyed spending time in Alberta in the Spring and Fall, helping with crops on his sister and nephew's farms.
He spent many weekends down the Canal at Rickey's cabin, fishing and being with friends. Donnie loved campfires and roasting hotdogs while often being surrounded by friends and family for "Happy Hour". So next time you are sitting by a fire have a cheers and remember Donnie!
A special thanks to Doctors Kitshoff and Sutcliffe, the Nanaimo Kidney Clinic, James and the girls from the Medicine Shop on Maple Way for their kindness, support and excellent service.
