It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald Edward Sterling of Campbell River, BC. He passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday June 29, 2019. He was 88 years old.
Don Sterling was born and raised in Nanaimo, he served, worked, lived, retired and loved life and living on Vancouver Island.
Shortly after joining the military he married his true love and life partner Patrica McNab from Fort McLeod, Alberta. Together they raised a family and traveled many places in the world, enjoying postings in Canada and abroad with his final posting returning them to live on Vancouver Island again in 1970. It was in Comox in 1979 where Don completed his 30 years of military service.
After retiring from the Air Force, Don was hired to serve as the manager and the ice maker of the local Campbell River Curling Club along with the help of his devoted wife Pat. They both retired in 1995. Don was 65. Don and Pat enjoyed a very happy retirement and over a 50 year marriage until she sadly passed away in 2005.
He is survived by his four sons and their families: Ken and Carol, Rob and Heidy, Norm and Brian. Nine grandchildren: Ken and Carol's children: (Matt and Brett) Rob and Heidy's children: (Paul, Micheal and Ben) Norm's children: (Reese and Spencer) and Brian's children: (Alex and Emily)
Don was an avid curler, service club member, crib player, birds in the bush champion. He enjoyed a cold beer and the company of his family and friends. You knew where you stood with Don. We appreciated that about him.
A celebration of life with be held for Don Sterling's family and friends on July 19, 2019 at 1 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 137, 301 - 11th Ave., Campbell River, BC. In lieu of flowers or gifts please make donations to the Royal Canadian Legion # 137 - Campbell River, BC
~ Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, But rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "Holy sh**... what a ride!" ~
