September 9, 1926 - November 20, 2019
On Wednesday, November 20, 2019 Donald Charles McIver passed away at age 93. Don was born on Set.9, 1926 at Comox BC to Charles and Ruth McIver. He worked in the logging and pulp mill industry for 44 years.
On October 25, 1947 he married Joan Petrie. They raised 2 daughters, Carol and Jane and a son Neil. Don and Joan lived in their waterfront home on Discovery Drive for 58 years.
Don had a passion for everything outdoors. He loved to fish, hunt, cross country ski, travel, hike, camp and take pictures of it all. His other interests included the Sportsplex, Operation Eyesight, Development and Peace, Beaver Lodge Lands and any local environmental concerns.
His last few years were spent marvelling at the beautiful gardens as he walked the city, enjoying music wherever he could find it- the Tidemark, Spirit Square, Mennonite Church concerts and Inclusion Band performances.
Don was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Joan, his siblings Jean, Margaret, Helen and Robert and his grandson Kyle. He is survived by his children Carol McConnell, Jane Fenuik, Neil (Jean) McIver, grandchildren Brye, Marla, Shayla and great grandchildren Carol and Rylan.
Thank you to the staff at Evergreen Seniors Home. No service by request.
I pray that I may live to fish until my dying day.
And when it comes to my last cast, I then most humbly pray: When in the Lords great landing net and peacefully asleep that in his mercy I be judged big enough to keep.
