December 21, 1938 - December 27, 2022
"But oh for the touch of a vanished hand,
Or the sound of a voice that is still"

Don Marchand - my friend, my love, my all for 58 years - departed this world on Tuesday December 27, 2022. I will miss him dearly and forever. How could I not? He was my person from the moment we met and no matter what we faced together - and we faced a lot - he could always make me laugh.
Don was a man of honour and integrity, humour and intelligence, strength and compassion. He loved his family fiercely and unconditionally. Our son Damon (Jenn), and daughter Danielle (Martin), and our perfect granddaughter Frances. As Danielle said about her dad, "To be loved by him was to know unconditional acceptance and understanding, and to know there was someone on the planet who would go anywhere and sacrifice anything for you." To those of you who never knew him, I'm sorry for your loss.
Don took great pride in the 34 years he spent as a member of the RCMP - a career that he enjoyed, excelled at, and always looked back on with fondness. He retired from the RCMP 1994 at the rank of Staff Sergeant with the deep respect of the sworn and civilian staff he worked with throughout his career. Don wasn't ready to relax into retirement in 1994 and immediately got a job with the Regional District of Comox Strathcona where he worked for another 10 years before retiring for real in 2004.
Don was born in Shoal Lake, Manitoba on December 21, 1938. He was the fifth child and second son of Albert Joseph and Adele Marchand (nee Boehm). Don was a much-loved son and brother to 11 siblings in his own family - seven girls and four boys - and, after our wedding in 1965, a cherished son and brother-in-law to my family.
Don will be sadly missed by his surviving siblings - Ken (Anne), Joanna (Merv), Judy, Renee, Raymonde, and Craig (Barb) - and mine - Darleen, Bill, Nora, Peter (Jeany), and Ian (Brenda) - and a legion of family and friends across Canada and around the world.
I want to thank Dr Stephen Nap at ValleyCare Medical Centre, as well as the medical and support staff throughout the Vancouver Island Health Authority, and the exceptional team at Comox Valley Funeral Home for the compassionate care and professional dedication they each provided to Don and our family on this journey.
Don was cremated on January 6, 2023. In accordance with his wishes, no service is planned. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the BC Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Glacier View Lodge Society if you are able.
"My mind still talks to you,
My heart still looks for you,
But my soul knows you are at peace."
