October 7, 1955 - November 11, 2020
It is with great sadness that on November 11, 2020, Donald (Don) Neil Black passed away suddenly in Vancouver General Hospital, surrounded by his loved ones.
Don will be forever remembered by the love of his life of 47 years, Gaylene, son Colin (Kassi), mother Leona, and sister Karen (Mark).
Don is now reunited with his late father, Neil. Don will be deeply missed by his extended family and friends.
Born in Trenton, ON, October 07, 1955, Don grew up in Whitehorse and Edmonton, enjoying an adventurous childhood before settling in the Comox Valley.
After marrying his high-school sweetheart, Don spent his working career at the Elk Falls Mill in Campbell River. He held a great passion for the outdoors, actively wandering through the mountains during hunting trips, frequently trolling down a lake, trout fishing the day away.
The love of being an outdoorsman was passed down to his son, Colin, creating many shared memories and life lessons. As a father, Don was hands-on, taking on the role of coach for any team sport that was tossed his way.
With the onset of Parkinson's, he immersed himself in the game of golf. It gave him a new spark to his life which he and Gaylene enjoyed together.
Keeping loved ones dear to his heart and cherishing the close company that he kept, held great importance to Don. We have no doubt that Don will be looking down on his growing family, relishing in the joys of seeing his son become a father.
Don's passing was not a result of Parkinson's, but rather a series of unpredictable medical events. In remembrance of Don, the family asks that everyone consider donating blood through Canadian Blood Services.
Thankfulness for our shared years accompanies each falling tear and while our grief will one day ease his smile endures in the waves, in the trees
