Dolores Marie (nee Huish) Hawkins

November 29, 1940 - October 17, 2017

It is with profound sadness and humbled hearts that we announce the death of Dolores Hawkins on October 17, 2017.

She was born in Duncan on November 29, 1940. Raised in Duncan and on Salt Spring Island. She was a descendent of the pioneer Ordano Family of Cowichan Bay and proud of her Italian and Scottish heritage.

She married young, raised five children, and managed the accounting of the family businesses. When she retired, she pursued her hobbies of knitting, local art and crafts, history, charity and nature. With her innate patience and gentle manner, she convinced many feral cats to accept her help of food and medical care.

She was always up for a political, philosophical or spiritual discussion. She was always offering up a good book she had just read. Life-long learning was a passion and one she inspired in those around her.

She is survived by her children, Dan (Trina), Don (Chris), Mike, Marlene and Jack (Debbie); her grandchildren, Matt, Andy, James, Randi and Walker and great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her uncle David Robson, friends Sonja Johnson and Joanne Jenner, among others; nieces and nephews, cousins and all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life and a Tea will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the Hub (Cowichan Station) from 1:30 pm-4:30 pm.
