April 5, 1952 - April 26, 2020
On Sunday, April 26th, 2020, Diane Lane, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away at the age of 68 after a four-a-half-year battle with cancer.
Diane was born on April 5th, 1952 in Bilston, England to Leonard and Olive Clarke. She won a place at Bilston Girls' High School, and then studied pediatric nursing at the Birmingham Children's Hospital, graduating with SRN and SRCN qualifications. Diane was a dedicated nurse for the rest of her years in the UK.
Diane married David in 1973 and they lived in Kidderminster, where their daughter Helen was born. In 1977 Diane and David emigrated to Toronto. Within a few years Richard and Christopher were born. The family moved again in 1981, finally settling on Vancouver Island, living first in Langford and then Sooke. During those years Diane not only looked after the children, but also earned a prize-winning history BA at the University of Victoria, worked for Sooke Region Museum, and enthusiastically supported her family's active lifestyle. Diane also volunteered in an Adult Literacy Program, and at the Victoria Need Crisis Line.
In 2007 Diane and David retired to the site of many family vacations, Parksville BC. There Diane became an avid golfer, birder, and a keen member and volunteer of the Newcomers Club and Alumni. She loved her garden and her pets. And she enjoyed happy times cruising, vacationing in the Canadian Rockies, Mexico and the US, and visiting family and old friends back in the UK. Her generosity, friendship, compassion and enthusiasm, will be missed, and remembered fondly by us all.
Diane is survived by husband David, children Helen, Richard and Christopher, granddaughter Cailin, mother Olive, sister Wendy and her niece Tanis and two nephews Robert and Nathan. She was predeceased by her father Len and her brother Martin.
Special thanks to the Nanaimo Cancer Clinic, the Oceanside Hospice Society and the Hospice at Trillium Lodge for all the loving care they gave to Diane during her illness. Please consider donating to the Canadian Cancer Society in Diane's name.
Diane's life will be celebrated at a later date. Details to be announced.
