1940 - 2020
Diana Violet Kulyk was born in Saskatchewan on May 13, 1940, and passed away on November 4, 2020, in the home she loved, in Campbell River. She had been unwell for some time.
Diana was predeceased by her parents, John William Kulyk and Margaret Wowchuk Kulyk. She is survived by her brother Dave Kulyk of Campbell River, her cousins Faye Gordon-Lewis of Vancouver & Wayne Gordon of Campbell River, and his children, Natalie Pentney of Calgary and Scott Gordon of Saanich. Diana was also "auntie" to Natalie's children, Cohen and Mayson and Scott's children, Kaden and Layla and was "family" to her life-long friends. She also leaves her aunt Martha in Edmonton and cousins, Trevor, Crystal, Renee and Wendy Wowchuk in Campbell River and cousins in Kelowna, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
She came to Campbell River with her family in 1947 where she lived until 1958, when she moved to Vancouver to attend the Vancouver School of Art. She spent her working life in Vancouver retiring from the Department of Chemistry at UBC and retired to Campbell River in 1992 where she continued her family life and friendships until her death.
Diana was a life-long artist. She was known for her artwork in the Carihi school annuals of the 1950's and, later, for the way she beautifully and artistically furnished and maintained her home. She was an art "enthusiast" all her life and also loved fashion, and was a fabulous cook.
She loved travelling which included trips to Mexico, Hawaii; the Caribbean; as well as the Mediterranean countries and around North America.
Diana was well cared for by a number of medical and related people and agencies for the last years (of her life) in the Campbell River area. Great thanks goes to all of them (esp. Dr. Jan Coetzee) for the life-giving help they gave her.
For those of us who have had Diana in our lives for 70 and 80 continuous years, she will be greatly missed. She will remain forever a part of our lives.
