Derall James Amos of Port Alberni, BC passed away November 11, 2017 in Nanaimo at the age of 79 years after a long struggle with health issues.

He is survived by his Wife, Matilda, Son, James (Jamie) and Daughter, Caroline and her children, Coburn, Gregory, Carlin, Jadyn and Taniel.

Derall will be missed by his siblings, Wayne, Patricia, Ivan, Deborah, Wilma and Joy and many Nieces, Nephews, extended family & friends. He was predeceased by his Parents, James and Helen Amos and infant siblings, Buddy and Anna May.

Derall was born April 30, 1938 in Doaktown, New Brunswick, the 1st of 9 children. He migrated to the West Coast as a young man, spending most of his working years as a logger and boom man. He married Judy in 1966 and they were married for 42 years until she died suddenly in 2009.

The Amos Family lived for many years in remote logging communities retiring in 1998 to Port Alberni. Derall was well-known for his remarkable memory and story-telling. He had a sharp wit and oft times, a quick spark. Derall with Jamie's help, liked to grow vegetables especially beets and giant sweet onions.

He made many trips "home" and forever maintained his New Brunswick roots picking out a fellow Easterner in an instant. He made many friends along the way. Derall joined the Masonic Rainbow Lodge in Port Hardy rising through the ranks as well as joining the Scottish Rite. He belonged to the Euclid and Barkley Lodges and was a Shriner. As part of his duties he brought hope to several children through the years who received help at the Shrine Hospital for Children.

He was proud to say he belonged to AA and was almost 40 years sober. Caroline became part of his life in the mid-90s and he married Matilda in 2010. Derall loved and admired many people he met in the First Nations Communities over the years.

Your compassion meant so much. A Celebration of Life was held at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 4731 Burke Road in Port Alberni, BC on Wed, Nov 15. Bishop Gary Gordon Officiant.

A reception in the Church Hall was followed w Burial at Alberni Memorial Gardens.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Yates Memorial Services.
