March 10, 1939 - March 15, 2022
In loving memory ~
Dawn Marie Gertrude Dunphy passed away on Tuesday March 15, 2022 in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Born on March 10, 1939, in Jewett's Mills, NB, she was the daughter of the late Leigh and Marie (Carlisle) Dunphy.
Dawn attended Acadia University and then completed her Medical Laboratory Technologist training with Saint John Regional Hospital. She moved to Vancouver in 1964 and worked at VGH then Shaughnessy Hospital where she was head tech of the Hematology Laboratory. She moved to Nanaimo in 1980 where she was chief technologist then lab manager at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. Dawn retired in 1998.
Dawn loved her cats and succession of dogs. She delighted in walking her dogs on trails around Nanaimo and beyond. She enjoyed travelling and many outdoor activities including sailing, biking and cross-country skiing. She was a wicked hiker (hard to keep up to) and enthusiastic paddler; she was past president and honorary lifetime member of the Nanaimo Paddlers Club. Dawn also volunteered at the Nanaimo Kennel Club, the Red Cross and Morrell Nature Sanctuary.
Due to failing health, Dawn moved back to NB in 2019 to be close to her family. Dawn is survived by her brother Jack (Mildred) Dunphy, three nieces and their families. She will also be fondly remembered by many friends on both coasts.
A family graveside service will be held at a later date at the Dunphy Cemetery in Island View, NB. Donations may be made to the Dunphy Cemetery, Canadian Red Cross or a charity of the donor's choice.
