March 28, 1949 - December 2, 2020
With heavy hearts we say goodbye to David, husband of 52 years, and best friend of Valerie. He left us peacefully in the comfort of his 3 generations of family, his River, his lodge and of course his Valerie.
A leap of faith in 1986 launched Sahtlam Lodge & Cabins. The ever evolving sanctuary hosted holidays, weddings, and gatherings that are cherished. All those who came over its 30 year run were encouraged to lend a hand.
Full of tenderness, kindness, grace and warmth, and such humour! Lives can be ordinary, yet extraordinary. David showed us the beauty in living life from the heart, the beauty of working hard, and in enjoying the simple pleasures that day to day life affords us.
His quirky dress sense included a perfect tie for every occasion. He lived by CBC Radio 2, glorying in Saturday opera, and Stuart McLean stories.
Adored by Valerie, loved by son Bryan (Verlaine), daughter Lisa (Matt) revered by grandchildren Bailey, Drew, Jocelyn, Lexi, Olivia, Haley, Mikayla and 'Greats': Caleb, Charlie, Josephine. Cherished by siblings Allen (Linda), Wendy, Larry, Leslie (Domenic), nephews and nieces, and the whole hamlet of Lower Sahtlam. David shines on in moonbeams reflecting off the Cowichan River.
In this Covid Year we cannot gather so please 'cheers' David in your own heart and home ... and consider a donation to Cancer research or Cowichan Hospice.
