November 5, 1933 - July 23, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Tydeman.
He is survived by his loving wife Wilma and three of their children: Patrick (Michelle), Nerida (Steven) and Zoe, grandchildren Maigan, Kyle, Ryan, Caylee, Aaron, Natalie, Andrew, Kate, Emily and great-grandchildren Tyrell, Wyatt, Kayde, Elizabeth, Bodi, Madison, Harland and Hazel and sister Diana (Lance) Holford and family. He was predeceased by parents Gerald and Lorna Tydeman, daughters Patricia, Christine and Tuula and great-grandchild Bennett.
David grew up in Sydney, Australia and spent his educational years at Newington Boarding School. After leaving school, he worked on sheep stations in N.S.W. and northern Queensland while also completing his National Service Training.
He made the decision to come to Canada and arriving in the Fall of 1954, experienced his first cold winter. He met Wilma in January and they married on June 17, 1955 spending 65 years together.
David worked as a timber cruiser and then in data compilation for McMillan-Bloedell, retiring at age 60. He enjoyed watching sports and politics on TV, home projects, long walks, going for coffee and a chat with friends and was an avid reader, especially of war history.
Through the years, he made and maintained a variety of friendships and included the family of his children's spouses into his own.
David was a generous man who loved and cared for his family and friends and showed this in many ways. Always ready to lend a hand or help out financially if needed, he was legendary in his quickness to pick up the restaurant tab at family gatherings.
We would like to thank the doctors, nurses and care aides at Nanaimo Regional Hospital for their kindness and care in David's lengthy stay and during the final hours with his family at his side.
A gathering in David's honour will be held at a later date. Contact dwtydeman@gmail.com for more information.
