David Carton, of Parksville, BC passed away on November 6, 2017. Born in Lifford, Co. Donegal, Ireland on March 11, 1928.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; sister Gillian Smillie of Saanichton; children, Peter (Ann ) of Regina, John (Pam) of Calgary, Anne (Brad) of Regina, grandchildren, Tara, Thomas, Daniel, Fatima, Alec, Simon, Kate; and great grandchildren, Theodore, Tallulah, Clementine, Ivy, Saoirse.
David completed his education at Trinity College, Dublin where he met Ruth. He went on to teach in Bangor, N. Ireland before immigrating with his family to Regina in 1955. He taught at both Balfour and Martin Collegiate before moving to Indian Head in 1962. There, he taught history and was the principal of the High School until 1983. He is fondly remembered by many of his students for the stories he told while teaching.
Ruth and David retired to Parksville BC where they enjoyed their home and had a happy retirement. David acted as the Parksville Emergency Preparedness Program Coordinator for a number of years and played in the Oceanside Concert Band. He was also a long time volunteer for the Parksville SPCA and SOS Meals on Wheels.
