Our beloved Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, Friend and Neighbour has left our World. Mourning her passing is her Son Sandy (Joan) Kellett, Grand Daughter Valerie (Paul) Harack, and Great Grandsons Kayden, Dylan, and Asher Harack.
Daphne had a long and fulfilling life. Born in North Bay Ontario, her family travelled throughout Western Canada as her Dad was a post supervisor for the Hudson's Bay Company. She saw many of the outposts and lived in Winnipeg, Regina, and Vancouver.
Being a good student and relocating several times during her school years enabled Daphne to skip whole grades as she changed schools. By age 16 Daphne had finished High School at Riverbend (now Balmoral Hall) in Winnipeg. Then it was off to the University of Manitoba to earn an Arts degree.
Working afterwards as a printer's proof reader, Daphne got the desire to pursue a career in journalism, so off she went in 1940 to Northwestern University in Chicago to earn a degree in journalism. Upon returning to Winnipeg she continued working in the print industry where she met her love, Edgar. In 1948 they were married, for 58 years, until Edgar's passing in 2006.
Daphne's only child, Sandy, was born in 1951. Life was good as Daphne enjoyed being a suburban housewife and Edgar continued as a print industry executive. When the 1960's arrived Daphne was ready for a bigger challenge so she returned to the University of Manitoba to achieve a Master's Degree in French, followed by a Teacher's certification, and in 1965 Daphne became a school teacher. She taught English and French at Junior High and High Schools in Winnipeg.
In 1970 Edgar started his own printing company, Kellett Copy Centres, and Daphne joined him in the new business the following year. They worked hard and after a few years they were successful enough to be able to enjoy some travels together.
Europe was their usual destination where Daphne could exercise her language talents. France and Germany were her favourites. There were other travels to Scotland, England, Bermuda, and even a few years of snow birding to Arizona.
Daphne convinced Edgar to retire in 1987 when she purchased a lot in Qualicum Beach BC to build their dream home. Daphne and Edgar had a wonderful time in their new home and made many new friends in retirement. There was time for gardening, volunteering, book club and cocktail parties. Daphne continued on for several years in her home after Edgar passed away. Eventually, when the house was too much, she moved to Hawthorne Place in 2018 and made even more friends.
Throughout Daphne's life she had many different interests and passions. A short list might be: people, languages, politics, old silver, china, family, literature, travel, debate, finance. If you wanted a conversation, you could depend on Daphne! No conversation was ever complete without her honest unfiltered opinion about the topic being discussed. The End!
Loyalty and generosity were Daphne's lifelong traits. Whether it was family, friend, one of her causes, or even a stranger she would help out to the best of her ability. Unselfishly, she wanted to make the world a better place.
Daphne, you lived life well, we love you and we will miss you!
