It is with great sadness that the family of Daniel Ian Mackenzie of Courtenay B.C. announce his passing on Saturday March 26, 2022 at the age of 80 years .
Dan was born in New York, NY on April 29, 1941 to Lena Douglas Bowness and Daniel Alexander MacKenzie.
Dan graduated from Royal Canadian Police College in 1961. He was a pilot for the R.C.M.P. for over 20 years . Dan and his wife Barb and two children traveled and lived all across Canada. Living as far east as Ottawa and as far north as Frobisher Bay on Baffin Island. Dan flew to many remote places in Canada. He even had the pleasure of flying Prince Charles around the north on his Royal Northern tour.
After retiring from the R.C.M.P., Dan become a Notary Public running his own business in Armstrong B.C.. Retiring once again in Courtenay, Dan started another business as a home handy man . He said it was the happiest he has been at any job. Dan had the right tool for any job. He was the ” Man Around the House”.
Dan leaves behind his wife of 58 years Barbara, daughter Leslie (Mike), son Leigh (Cindi).
Dan had 6 grandsons, Tylor, Liam, Travis, Declan, Dominic, and Hammond and two great grandchildren Riley and Erynn. Forever remember by his sister Donna Northrup (Ray), sisters and brothers in law. He was close to many of his cousins also uncle to many nieces and nephews. Dan was a social guy, cooking for all, organizing parties and events. Dan lived a big life. He was loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
Dans love of music was an incredible passion for him that spanned his lifetime, from a band in high school to playing in a band at 80, he loved his music days . The Happy Gang music group he played guitar with in Courtenay, will never be the same. They will all miss that red guitar .
