In Loving Memory ~
It is with heartbreaking sadness Dan's wife Sharon announces his sudden passing. Dan was born September 18, 1951, in Victoria, BC. He was a loving husband of 50 years and leaves behind his devoted wife Sharon and siblings: Lynda, (Alan), Donald, Donna, and Debra (Paul) and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Dan graduated BCIT in 1971 as a Forestry technician, his first job was Assistant Ranger in the Lund Forest district. Dan loved this assignment as it involved traveling by boat to remote logging sites. Lund is where he discovered that forestry would be his lifelong work. Dan later transferred to Port Alberni in 1979 and retired March 2004 as a Operations Manager, South Island Forest district.
Brentwood College introduced Dan to the game of rugby that soon became his sport of passion. Shortly after moving to Port Alberni, he began playing for the Black Sheep where club members became his extended family. In Dan's own words he likened his time with the Black Sheep to "the camaraderie of young men going off to war". When Dan's playing years were over, he continued his rugby passion coaching with the junior program.
Dan did not enjoy being cold! Summer and winter trips to hot places were his favourite times. He loved taking friends and family for tube rides, especially his many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Rugby Youth Program (cheques payable to Port Alberni Black Sheep RUFC Rep Player Development Fund) or e-transfer to pablacksheeptreasurer@shaw.ca
Family would like to express their gratitude to the Sproat Lake Volunteer Fire Department and the paramedics. We are also grateful to Dr. Freddie Meyer for his compassionate care.
