February 24, 1935 - December 7, 2022
In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sid Swan on December 7th, 2022, at the age of 87 years.
Sid is survived by his son Dean (Linda), daughter Lisa (Steve), 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 4 sisters, 1 brother, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years Anna, his parents, and two sisters.
Sid was born February 24th, 1935, in Cardston, Alberta, where he spent his childhood. Sid's introduction to work began at an early age in the family-run bakery in Cardston. As an adult, he pursued varied career paths, including driving trucks in the Alberta oilfield and selling real estate in the Lower Mainland. Later, he joined his father and brother in a residential renovation business in Vancouver, B.C.
Sid met Anna in 1961 and they married in 1962. They raised two children in the Vancouver, B.C. area, spending every summer on Vancouver Island. Sid retired in 2000 and they eventually made Vancouver Island their home.
Sid was an avid salmon fisherman and was usually the first out, rain or shine, and at times in total darkness. He loved to garden and spent many hours canning his catch. Sid could fix anything and wasted nothing. He was a good friend to all and had a cheerful sense of humour. In 2019 Sid had a stroke, which left him unable to manage on his own. He resided at The Views - Mountain View II, from June 2020 until his death.
We would like to acknowledge those who have cared for Sid these past 3 years; his friends who continued to visit and provide support; Dr. Matthew Robertson and Dr. Marcus Langhans for their compassionate care; the social worker, OT, PT, activities staff, kitchen and the housekeeping staff at The Views who always brightened his day with their kindness. Lastly, the amazing nurses and care aids at Mountain View II. There are no words to adequately express our gratitude for the love and care that Sid received from all of you. You had such a positive impact on the quality and comfort he experienced in the last years of his life.
There will be no service at this time.
For those wishing to honour Sid's memory with a donation, consideration to The Views @ St. Joseph's would be appreciated.
