Constant was born on April 19, 1952 in Hot Springs Cove, BC, and died suddenly on September 4, 2022 in Port Alberni, BC. Constant was known as 'Con', 'Connie', or by his nickname 'Nupps'. Con's cultural name was ʔaawiłqum, which means to take something.
Con's parents were Patrick Charleson Sr. and Mamie Charleson (mit) nee John. Con was a Christie & St. Mary's Indian Residential survivor. For 50+ years Con was a logger; commercial fisherman, commercial marine diver, & food fisherman.
He was an advocate for Native fishing rights & wild salmon. He spent years fishing alongside his family on the Somass River. Con spent 15 years as a Band Councilor for Hesquiaht; he was a player/coach for Hesquiaht Braves Basketball; he coordinated the Hesquiaht Braves All Native Basketball tournament; he was a player/coach in the game of fastball. Con had 6 children with Arlene Howard, 1 child (predeceased) with Tess Hansen, 1 child with Julia Joseph and 5 children (1 predeceased) with Heather Joseph.
Con is survived by his wife Heather Joseph, his 11 children, 28 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and numerous family and friends. ƛ̓eekoo ƛ̓eekoo to family, friends, and community for your love and support during our family's time of need.
