April 8, 1932 - January 4, 2020
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Colin Eugene McArthur, a much-loved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, on January 4, 2020 after a brief hospitalization. He left this world peacefully with the grace and dignity that he maintained throughout his lifetime. He leaves behind a loving family who will miss him greatly, and his reputation as an honest, hard-working, reliable, humble and kind man.
He is survived by his adoring wife and partner of 64-1/2 years, Sheila, with whom he created an abundance of wonderful lifetime memories. He is also survived by three loving daughters, Laurinda Heiberg (Dave), Valerie McKay (Dale) and Julia McArthur, five grandchildren, Christopher Heiberg, Brent Heiberg, Meghan Cryderman, Forbes Robinson and James Robinson, and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Gordon McArthur (Sharon) as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Colin was predeceased by his parents Colin Sr. and Verna McArthur, and by his eldest grandchild, Eric Heiberg.
He was born in Chase River on April 8, 1932. Except for a two-year span in Victoria, he spent his lifetime in Nanaimo BC. He worked for 42 years at Kelly Douglas.
He will live on in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren by his reputation and the values he instilled within them.
We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the Palliative Care Unit at NRGH for their exemplary compassionate care during our husband/fathers' time there. They made this particularly difficult time much easier to bear. The family would also like to thank Dr. Nicholas Schulson, for his years of care for Colin.
