Colin Campbell Scott was born in Caledon, Cape Province, South Africa, the eldest of three children. In 1958 he married the love of his life and his best friend, Gloria Johnston and in 1960 the couple moved to Vancouver, B.C. Canada.
He will be dearly missed by his three children, Susan (Trevor), Heather (Doug) and Greg (Suzy) as well as eight precious grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and his brother Neale (Faye) in Johannesburg and sister Barbara (Brian) in Brisbane, Australia.
Colin was originally employed by a shoe wholesaler in Vancouver and in 1964 was sent to Campbell River to open Town Shoes on the Tyee Plaza, He was later employed by Crown Zellerbach at Elk Falls Mill while he studied accounting through correspondence. These skills led him to employment at the Credit Union and Department of Indian Affairs amongst others. Upon closure of the DIA he was transferred to Nelson and eventually back to Vancouver. Colin did not enjoy being away from family in Campbell River and decided at that time to take early retirement.
A true South African, Colin loved and played cricket, but his passion was for soccer. He played regularly and was organizer for early games between locals and the crew of the "Fairsea" when it was in dock.
A boyhood hobby was raising racing pigeons and he always regretted not being able to continue this activity in Canada. Never one to waste, he was a true ambassador for the planet - all family drives were regularly interrupted for roadside pop can retrieval - amidst much family embarrassment and complaining.
Our "Papa's" Christian faith was the leading force in his life. He was actively involved in the United Church for many years and later the Vineyard Church where he was known as a "prayer warrior".
The last years of Colin's life have been difficult and we feel blessed that he was surrounded by such loving care in his final years at Yucalta Lodge. We would like to thank the wonderful staff and Dr. Walker for this.
A celebration of Colin's life will be held at the Vineyard Church, 2215 Campbell River Rd at 2 p.m. on Saturday November 18th 2017.
