On January 1, 2019, Clifford Albert Pearson passed away peacefully at Kiwanis Lodge in Nanaimo.

Clifford was born July 19, 1926 in Nanaimo. His parents, Clifford Hedley and Mary Jane Pearson, raised him and his much-loved sister, Bernice, in a loving home in South Nanaimo.

Cliff met the love of his life, Mabel, playing badminton in 1955. They married on September 22, 1956, settled in Nanaimo, and raised their family in Cedar. Their love of family, friends, music, dancing, art, curling, camping, and all things Hornby, provided a very happy life for over 60 years. He was a devoted family man and stopped short at nothing to help his family, friends, and strangers. He had a wicked sense of humour, and his 'puns' were the highlight of many conversations.

Cliff was a hard worker, getting up at 4 a.m. to work at the Scotch Bakery while attending John Shaw High School. After graduation he worked at BC Hydro and Inkster & Roberts lumber/hardware store. He returned to university in his 30's, becoming a well-respected teacher at John Barsby and Cedar Junior secondary schools. He was a talented artist in a multitude of mediums. His cake decorating skills were unparalleled and his cakes adorned too many social functions to mention. He was actively involved with Art 10 Gallery, St. Philips and St. Paul's Anglican churches, Nanaimo Minor Hockey, the Masonic Lodge and Job's Daughters.

Predeceased by Mabel in March 2017, oldest son Michael in October 2015, and his parents, Clifford will be happily remembered by his son and daughter-in-law Neale and Denise, daughter and son-in-law Heather and Don, and daughter-in-law Louise; sister Bernice; his cherished grandchildren Jenni, Larissa (Peter), Michael (Danielle), Bryanna, Katie (Anthony), Diana (Michael), Evan, Nolan and Abbi, and great-grandchildren Peyton, McKenna, Carter and Colton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

If you wish, please make a donation to the Alzheimer's Society, or to a charity of your choice.

A Celebration of Clifford's life will be held in the spring.
