It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Christine Rosemary Barclay on 18 October 2018. My mother was born and raised in Birmingham England of which she had many fond memories and stories. At 20 years old, Mom boarded the Georgic of the Cunard White Start Line in Southampton and journeyed to New York. From there she made her way to Saskatoon Sask. where, while working for International Harvester she met the love of her life and lifelong best friend, Ken Barclay. My Mom and Dad had a relationship that all couples aspire to have. My mother was an excellent wife, homemaker – she loved to cook, bake, sew and play piano. An animal lover, we had lots of pets and she looked after all of us exceptionally well. My mother was a small, gentle English lady who knew her own mind and had a strong spirit, I will always be in awe of her.
My mother is survived by my father Ken Herbert, daughter Lynne Mary (Kevin). Predeceased in 2007 by my brother Leo Charles (Janet), Mom’s sister Dorothy in 1984 and her brother Richard in 2003. Also predeceased by her mother Mary Alice in 1978 and father Charles Henry in 1964.
We would like to thank the doctor, nursing staff and care aids of the Nanaimo Senior Village, complex care unit for all their dedication and compassion during the last 3 years. A further thank you to Senior Outreach and Dufferin Care Facility.
A small family service will be held at some time in the near future. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made the Alzheimer’s Society, BC SPCA or charity of your choice.
