February 5, 1954 - March 25, 2022
In loving memory ~
On March 25, 2022 Chris left us like she lived, on her own terms. A graduate of London Culinary Arts, she was as adept feeding elite European hunters as skinning out wolves.
A favourite story of her's chasing off a grizzly bear with a broom from the lodge porch always got a chuckle.
Coming down from the Kootenay Mountains, Chris endured a botched medical procedure which changed her life. Chris became a Community Support Worker and used her considerable sewing skills to start a new career. No self pity for her. Chris cared for many, many clients creating adaptive clothing, heat bags, cool collars and wheelchair ponchos. Most clients just called her Mom.
Her hand made dolls brought cheer to children and were featured at the Chemainus Theatre. For years Chris could be found at the Cedar/Chemainus Craft Fairs. Cold rain or blazing heat never stopped her providing products that helped sooth pain.
Often at or below cost Chris knew the suffering constant pain caused. Until her writing ability deteriorated she volunteered for the Seniors Shopping Group at our 49th in Ladysmith. Chris believed music could change the world. With her guitar and harmonicas many jam sessions benefited from her enthusiasm. From Beethovens' Ode to Joy' to Bruce Coburns 'If I had a Rocket Launcher' her interests where as diverse as she was.
Equally proud of their successes she was supportive of their failures, Chris loved her two children Dylan and Angela with grandson Jaxson.
A bouquet of flowers shared equal joy with diamond earrings for Chris. She saw beauty and hope everywhere. A staunch believer in the Al-anon program, Chis was nonjudgemental, supportive and understanding.
Covid 19 curtailed many activities Chris enjoyed, especially swimming. She would like to thank the staff at Frank Jameson Aquatic Center for making her young and mobile again.
On the day Chris died 21 swans flew over her house. I'd like to think it was 20 friends taking her on a new adventure.
Chis saved my life. Was my best friend for 10 years. I miss her already. Goodbye my friend. Ron Schube.
