Charles "Bill" Freeman passed away peacefully in his home with family by his side on Thursday, July 30, 2020.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Ardith; son Alan Freeman; his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Brent Siferd; brothers Arthur Freeman (Cindy), and Roger Freeman (Jeanne); sisters Diane MacDougall of Mersey Point Nova Scotia, and Helen Fox (David) of Western Head Nova Scotia; Step-grandchildren Jaryd McFaul and Emma McFaul; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Bill is predeceased by his father Charles Freeman and his mother Dorothy Lewis; as well as his brother Ervin Freeman and his sister- in-law Sandra Freeman.
Bill was born on August 2, 1939 in South Brookfield, Nova Scotia and grew up in Liverpool Nova Scotia. By the age of 18 he starting working on numerous ships on the east coast of Canada. He travelled to many places including Canada's eastern Provinces, numerous USA states, Jamaica, and England.
In 1966 Bill moved with his wife and son from Nova Scotia to British Columbia where their daughter would later be born. Bill worked in the paper mill in Port Alberni for over 35 years and retired in 2002.
In 2008 Bill started receiving dialysis treatment at the community dialysis unit in Port Alberni. He always said if the nurses hadn't been so nice he would not have been able to tolerate the treatment.
Bill loved country music and some of his happiest moments were when he was playing his guitar and singing. He had a great voice!
The family would like to thank all the nurses at the dialysis unit; his nephrologist Dr. Rachel Carson; Fran Chiste his NP; the Port Alberni paramedics; all the home support nurses and workers who were here in the last few months; and MIKA the mid island kidney association who support Dialysis patients.
In lieu of flowers donations may kindly be made in Bills name to MIKA.
