December 10, 2020
Catherine Jane Scott, beloved wife, grandmother, godmother, sister, sister-in-law, special aunt, and cherished cousin passed away peacefully on December 10, 2020 in Duncan, BC.
Catherine is survived by her loving husband and best friend, Glen Hammond; his son Ted (Kim) Hammond and their 3 young children, Natalie, Graham and Alexandra; her older granddaughters, Fiona, and Octavia MacIsaac; and her brother Ronald. Catherine was predeceased by her sister Nancy and Glen's daughter Christine. Also grieving her loss are many other dear family members and special friends.
Born in Brantford, Ontario, the middle of 3 children of the late Dr. Lorne and Stella Scott, Catherine's fondest memories were of long summer days at the Scott family cottage in Muskoka, canoe trips with Glen, friends, and their dogs.
Time was well spent with her family and close circle of friends, including reunions each year with fellow University of Toronto graduates. She began her career in Ottawa, where she met Glen. They lived in Toronto and Ottawa before finally moving back to Glen's roots on Vancouver Island, settling in Chemainus on an organic holly and garlic farm overlooking the ocean.
Catherine loved to go to the Chemainus Theatre and the Belfry Theatre in Victoria. She was also a classical music lover, attending Victoria Symphony concerts in Duncan, as well as numerous chamber concerts in the area. Among her other interests were the Gardening Club and yoga classes.
A talented musician, an avid reader, an environmentalist with a keen awareness of her responsibility to this earth, and a person with great generosity of spirit, Catherine loved her family, her cats and dogs, her gardens, good food, long walks and stimulating conversation.
Special thanks and gratitude to Carolyn Burgess, who worked tirelessly with both Glen and Catherine for the past several years.
Donations can be made in Catherine's memory to the Nature Conservancy of Canada and The Cowichan & District BC SPCA.
This is not farewell, but until we meet again. "A life that touches others goes on forever" (unknown)
