In Loving Memory ~
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Carolyn Susan Trites. Carolyn is survived by her mother Edna Trites/Donald Ray, Parksville, brother Norman Trites/Rita, Port Alberni, sister Judy McNabb/Bob, Oliver, sister Marilyn Trites/Rod, Nanaimo, nieces Kim Short/Murray and their sons Trevor and Brett, Abbotsford, Larissa Trites, nephews Jeff Near and Clayton Near and James Parker. She is predeceased by her father Russell and her sister Joyce Near.
Carolyn was born to Edna and Russell Trites in Vancouver, B.C. She was twin sister to Marilyn and the family lived and grew up in the Terra Nova area in Richmond. She moved to Alaska after graduation where she lived for the next eleven years. She shared with her friends the many adventures she experienced during those years in Alaska, river rafting, living off the grid and many trips to the US and Mexico.
Carolyn's next adventure was moving to Flagstaff Arizona to complete a degree in Speech Pathology. Carolyn moved to North Vancouver Island for a career as a Speech and Language Pathologist working for the School District providing services to children.
Her next career move was to White Rock where she worked for an agency providing support to children and their families. In 2010 she relocated to Vancouver Island and dedicated her work with young preschool children in supported child development until her retirement in 2020.
Carolyn loved the outdoors and any activity outside including golf, skiing, hiking, kayaking and even as her health declined from cancer, she enjoyed many beach walks. Carolyn spent many years creating stained glass works of art, she was an avid reader and played a mean scrabble game.
Over the last few years, she was supported by her friend's Janine Calder, Norma and John Lewis, Anne Langer, Tina and Ray Depuit, Dana Wallace, Richard Brett and Eugene White. Throughout her life Carolyn dedicated her career to working with young children.
In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to the nearest Early Childhood Development Center. To celebrate Carolyn's life, her family and friends will gather on a bright sunny day at Saratoga Beach to share memories and enjoy the beautiful vista that she loved.
