Caroline Gaumond

May 26, 2020

March 15, 1942 - May 26, 2020
Caroline Gaumond passed away at North Island Hospital on May 26, 2020. Carol was born in Prelate, Saskatchewan on March 15, 1942 to Frank and Phyllis Wingenbach.
She grew up in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and met and married her husband John Gaumond in that city. John was an airman in the Canadian Forces and they spent the first few years of their married life in Moose Jaw while John was stationed there.
Their two sons Dean and Kevin were born during this time. They were then transferred to Trenton, Ontario for five years which was followed by a series of postings around Canada and then transferred to Lahr, Germany.
Carol loved their time there and often spoke of her experiences with great relish. They were then transferred back to Canada. This time they had the option to choose their next posting because it would be John's last as his retirement was soon coming. They chose Comox, BC and remained here until her passing.
Known to be a kind and caring person, she was also known for a fiery temper when provoked. At those times this would be expressed with a mouth you might more associate with a drunken sailor.
She wasn't a person who cared what people thought. She was in fact greatly loved by all who knew her. She was kind and cared deeply for the weak and vulnerable. Whenever she encountered the needy either through her work as a nurse's aide or in her daily life she gave her very best for them. That same sailor's mouth was laced with kindness and encouragement, and not just words but her actions followed.
Carol was always "all in" for any joke, any absurd and funny pranks and anything that would provoke a laugh. Humour was high on her list of life's priorities and people loved being with her.
She will be greatly missed by her surviving family, husband John, 2 sons Dean and Kevin, 2 brothers and 2 sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews, and her close friend Lisa Laughlin.
