Carol was born in Vancouver to John and Christina. She attended school in Vancouver until she went to work with her father at a downtown Optometry office. After hours they would often go to the racetrack together, as her father was an avid horseman, who usually had a thoroughbred which would occasionally run in the races.
Carol married Edward Marshall in 1955 and raised us 5 brats to be relatively decent human beings (much thanks to judicious use of the rubber spatula).
In 1971, she gathered up the five brats and moved to the island for a fresh start. She married Gordon Whalley, and they enjoyed a couple of years together making many new friends, but as circumstances happen the marriage did not work out.
Carol then went to work for Alfreda Walsh, who was somewhat of a mentor to Mom, and a successful salon operator in the Valley. After a year with the help of Alfreda she started up Faces, a small esthetics salon, and the first of its kind in the Comox Valley. After a few years she combined it with a hair salon, which she operated for 33 years.
Many staff members remember her fondly as a friend, and for some a second mother figure (once again that rubber spatula got some use-wink)
Clients and friends remember her as the woman who never aged, despite some painful ailments that no one would suspect due to her always happy demeanour. She was a fun lady to be around!
Her daughter, Debra, crafted a special martini for her, which all who tried it fell in love with it at first sip, here in to be known as "the Carol ann"
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters Johann, and Betty.
She is survived by her 5 brats, Dennis, Debra, Linda, Mike, and Brenda, as well as grandchildren Corrie, Sarah, Britanny, Jessie, Cameron, and Devon, and great grandson Oli.
We love you, and will miss you with all our hearts, Mom, Nana, Great Nan.
Celebration of life to be held at a later date.
