Bruce was born in Orillia Ontario on Sunday, November 25, 1928 where he attended elementary and secondary school graduating from ODCVI in 1947. During WWII as a high school student he worked at Hunter Boat Works in Orillia as a riveter on Fairmile submarine chasers for the war effort.
After high school Bruce joined Orillia Water Light and Power starting his career as a hydroelectric dam operator. Bruce and Phyllis spent an exciting 37 years following Bruce's advancing career with Ontario Hydro living in Orillia, Barrie, Big Chute, Ragged Rapids, Mattawa, Stewartville and Bracebridge.
Bruce enjoyed boating (especially sailing), scuba diving, camping, canoeing, swimming, wind surfing, curling, but most of all, being with his many friends and relatives exchanging stories and commenting on the news of the world.
Retiring in 1986 Bruce and Phyllis embarked on an 18 month RV tour of North America, during which they discovered their ultimate winter retirement home of Lettuce Lake in Florida where they made enduring close friendships. In 1998 Bruce and Phyllis moved to Ladysmith on Vancouver Island, where they enjoyed summers sailing in the Gulf Islands, then commuting to Florida for winters at Lettuce Lake. Bruce greatly missed his life partner Phyllis, who passed away March 11, 2017 and spoke of her lovingly.
Fiercely independent to the end, Bruce will be dearly missed by all who had the opportunity to know him.
Bruce's family is planning to hold a Celebration of Life for him in Bracebridge in the spring of 2023. If you want an update regarding where and when it will happen or if you have photos you'd like to share of Bruce please send them to BADFerguson28@gmail.com.
