July 31, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brian Goldring on July 31, 2021 at the age of 81 in Courtenay.
He is predeceased by his parents, Edward and Marjorie Goldring; brothers, Hugh Goldring and Floyd Tucker; sisters, Lorraine Scott and Elvina Peterson.
He is survived by this wife, Ella; his sister, Gillian Ames; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was born in Edmonton and at a young age moved to Nanaimo. It was there at a dance in the Pleasant Valley Hall that he met the love of his life, Ella Jacobson. They were married in 1969 and lived in Ladysmith for over 20 years.
He worked on BC ferries in Nanaimo and in 1990 transferred to Denman Island where he worked as Chief Officer. He loved living on Denman Island and enjoyed riding his bike to work.
He retired from BC Ferries after 34 years of service. In 2019, due to failing health, they moved to Casa Loma in Courtenay.
Brian was a hardworking, compassionate man with a great sense of humour. He enjoyed his time with family and friends. He loved to sing in the church choir. He had a voice like Elvis and enjoyed performing Elvis concerts for his community on Denman Island.
His hobbies included gardening, cycling, camping, fishing, painting and sketching. He used to draw comic strips with his nieces and nephews - something they remember fondly during visits with their Uncle Brian.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Casa Loma for their wonderful care of Brian and to Rudy and Ellen Friesen for their long- time friendship and support.
